Don’t Stop Believing!

You know, because every new endeavor should start with a Journey song.

Well, its time to dive in! I have never started something half-heartedly. I always seem to dive in and get nice and over-my-head almost immediately. And this new business venture is no exception!

I all started last Friday April 29th (also known as the how-much-do-we-need-to-know-about-the-royal-wedding-day), when I was non-renewed by my principal at the middle school where I was teaching math and social studies. The thing about non-renewals is that they don’t have to give you a reason why they are letting you go. It was quite unexpected and very hard to hear.

So, what do I do? Swear off teaching of course! Like I said, I never do anything half-way. Since time has passed and the emotion of the day has started to fade, I have reconsidered and told myself I will at least keep my resume and application to the school districts current. But my current course is to try the business route. So Cozy Designs was reawakened from the Etsy I-tried-this-once grave, and revamped to become a fabric, pattern, and finished quilt sales venue. People in my life have been encouraging me to make and sell quilts for some time now, and losing your job is a pretty good kick in the butt to tell you to try something new.

But boy, is it hard work! Mr. Cozy Designs and I went through all the paperwork and government office-waiting required to get set up with a registered name and tax ID, and I’m in the process of setting up a wholesale account through Moda fabrics so I can buy their gorgeous fabric wholesale. But I started to get antsy. And so I went to Joann’s.

First, let me apologize for the lousy pictures. You see, I found one of these in my closet:

I vaguely recall that it belongs to my mother. And that Mr. Cozy Designs borrowed it to take my brother and his new fiance’s engagement photos. Apparently it was never returned. I think that after a couple months of living in my house, that means it is now mine right? Right!

But as you can tell by the crummy quality photo, I haven’t figured out how to work it yet. It has power, but it is telling me it is missing a photo card. So until that situation can be resolved, I am stuck using ye-olde-iPhone to take photos. Thus, the crummy pictures.

Where was I? Oh yes! I went to Joann’s. And I found these:

Beautiful. Even on an iPhone picture.

This is Denyse Schmidt’s new line, produced and sold exclusively by Joann’s. The particular store I went to didn’t have the entire line currently in stock, but I couldn’t resist picking up these beautiful fabrics. I listed them in the shop, but I certainly set aside portions of each cut to use to make a quilt. The ideas bouncing around in my head for these fabrics are almost driving me crazy right now! Time to get sewing!
